Recently, during the inauguration of the factory of the Complexo Industrial da Empresa Brasileira de Hemoderivados e Biotecnologia (Hemobrás) in Goiânia-GO, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said that Brazil is in a good position to have an industrial hub in the healthcare area that is competitive on the world stage and that the Unified Health System (SUS) is fundamental for the development of the sector. He also said that an artificial intelligence (AI) project will be developed for the sector by June. The initiative is part of the national strategy for the development of the Health Economic-Industrial Complex, with funds coming from the Novo PAC (New Growth Acceleration Program).

For ABIMED, the recovery of the industry in Brazil is of fundamental importance and, in the area of medical devices, the outlook is positive. According to the organization’s CEO, Fernando Silveira Filho, the focus is the need for the application of the Industrial Policy to be clearly inclusive of the origin of capital, given the necessity to attract direct investment in the country. This will speed up the process of acquiring advanced health technologies. “We can’t lean to or run the risk of falling, once again, into protectionist policies and practices, one of the causes of the country’s early deindustrialization, in addition to the cost of doing business in Brazil and its tax complexity and legal insecurity,” says the entity’s CEO.
