Students who are blind or have impaired vision are beginning to have access to knowledge and experience the longed-for inclusion, thanks to glasses that allow “artificial vision”. The devices were distributed this year in municipal schools in Campinas (SP) to 40 students. The Government of Rondônia also invested in the acquisition of reading equipment for 52 visually impaired students in the state school system.
Developed by Israeli researchers, the OrCam MyEye 2.0 is the world’s most advanced wearable assistive technology device for people with visual impairments or reading difficulties, enabling users to read printed or digital text. The device also scans the environment in real time, recognizing people and objects, with audio description.
OrCam MyEye 2.0 features advanced face recognition technology that helps users identify the people around them. It can read texts in Portuguese and English and, because it is equipped with LEDs, it can also operate in the dark. In addition, it enables updates via the internet and identifies previously recorded products.
The device even identifies colors with a simple touch. It also has automatic recognition of money notes and tells the time whenever the user looks at their wrist, as if they were wearing a watch. Bar-codes can be read by the device, giving the user the autonomy to go to markets and stores. It’s technology helping in the learning process, guaranteeing inclusion and generating a better quality of life for the visually impaired.
