The year of 2024 promises to be one of many challenges and opportunities for companies seeking to comply with the rules and regulations of their sectors. According to a survey conducted by KPMG, 73% of companies expect the level of focus on compliance to increase based on regulatory expectations. One of the trends that will mark the field in order to comply with legal standards, regulations and established guidelines is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to automate and optimize processes. However, the use of this innovation brings ethical and legal challenges, such as responsibility for the results and the protection of sensitive data.
For ABIMED, ethics and compliance are priority issues. Last year, the organization launched the 6th Edition of its Code of Conduct, which establishes guidelines for its members and the market. Among the updates in this edition are the adaptation to the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and the new Bidding Law. The Association also offers a distance learning program to help companies improve their codes of ethics and compliance. Another important initiative was the creation of the Independent Ethics Committee, made up of professionals from the academic, legal, and medical fields, in an unprecedented initiative in the sector. These actions aim to benefit the patient, who is at the tip of the ecosystem, through an industry that is increasingly aware of its role in society.
