Compliance programs are made up of a set of policies, procedures and training aimed at ensuring that an institution’s activities comply with current sector regulations. One of the main objectives of a healthcare compliance program is to ensure that institutions provide high-quality services within the recommendations of the law.

Patients benefit the most when ethics and compliance are practiced. After all, providing them with adequate care involves the entire ecosystem, from the supply of technological equipment to the direct work of healthcare professionals.

The main importance of compliance lies in the fact that it guarantees patient safety by providing for correct actions, within current regulations and with clear rules of procedures, which minimizes risks. Good compliance and ethical practices strengthen the quality of care and guarantee the patient data’s privacy.

For ABIMED, this issue is among its priorities. Last year, the organization launched the 6th Edition of its Code of Conduct, which establishes guidelines for its members and the market. Among the updates in this edition are the adaptation to the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and the new Bidding Law. The Association also offers a distance learning program to help companies improve their codes of ethics and compliance. An even bolder move was the creation of the Independent Ethics Commission, made up of professionals from the academic, legal and medical fields, in an unprecedented initiative in the sector.

In all these actions, there is a greater interest in benefiting the patient, who is at the tip of the ecosystem, through the actions of an industry that is increasingly aware of its role in society.
