Saber ABIMED provides guidance on the adjustments required by the Law of Harassment

Law 14,457 was instituted in September 2022, with the goal of reducing cases of harassment and encouraging the hiring and retention of women in the labor market. The new law created the Hire + Women program and introduced changes in the labor law and in CIPA, which was renamed as the Internal Commission for the Prevention of Accidents and Harassment. Thus, since March 21, companies are obliged to adopt measures to prevent and combat harassment and other forms of violence in the workplace.

To orient its associates on the subject, ABIMED promoted on March 23rd the Saber ABIMED conference about the Harassment Law, which had the speaker Dr. Ana Paula Gonçalves Maia, responsible for labor issues at SPLaw law firm. Saber ABIMED was created by Fernando Silveira Filho, executive president of the entity, and had Jorge Khauaja, Legal and Compliance manager, as the moderator.

According to the speaker, companies can already be inspected, and even those that are in compliance with the legislation need to continuously evaluate their programs, because a newly hired employee may come from an organization with a different culture and adopt attitudes that compromise the company. She also pointed out that the law is aimed at all employees, regardless of their work regime, including outsourced employees.

Emphasizing that the engagement of managers is key, Dr. Ana Paula cited some measures that can be adopted to comply with the legislation: elaborating policies and statements on rules of conduct; creating and publicizing a Channel for Complaints; holding training sessions and workshops about these themes; and producing documents that prove the company’s monitoring and concerns regarding the prevention of harassment and violence, such as attendance lists for training sessions and internal reports.
