In a pioneering initiative among regulatory agencies in Brazil, the ANS – Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar (National Supplementary Health Agency) launched in March its Integrated Governance and Social and Environmental Responsibility Policy, through Administrative Resolution No. 82/2023. The Resolution brings normative provisions and the inclusion of environmental, social, and governance factors in ANS programs, projects, processes, activities, and tasks, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG / UN).

With the new policy, ANS adds social, environmental, and governance values to its institutional mission, contributing to a socially just environment and adopting more inclusive actions in various segments. Among the principles of the Integrated ESG Policy, ANS lists several aspects such as ethics and socio-environmental responsibility; efficiency, effectiveness, and inclusiveness; integrity; transparency; accountability; skills management, and regulatory improvement.

In its guidelines, the Resolution defines which SDGs are applicable to the Agency and, therefore, will be on the radar of its performance: establishment of leadership, strategy, and control mechanisms oriented towards strengthening organizational governance and sustainability; promotion of ESG culture, awareness, and internal institutionalization; management of organizational and sustainability risks; active role in the application of sustainable procurement practices; stimulation of social inclusion together with the fight against any type of prejudice; and the conscious use of water, sewage, energy and waste, as well as their correct disposal.

The Agency’s Integrated ESG Policy is aligned with its strategic planning and the Regulatory Agenda 2023-2025.
