Challenges for the Health Economic-Industrial Complex

According to specialists, the healthcare sector is in a privileged position in the New Brazilian Industry (NIB) scenario. However, they argue that some things need to move forward for this to happen, such as establishing priorities, promoting good research practices, and rethinking the intellectual property policy. In addition, they believe that the Health Economic-Industrial Complex (HEIC) and the strategy for dealing with it is a crucial step in interpreting the relationship between expanding access to goods and services and scientific, technological, and productive development in the sector.
Another belief is that the decision to anchor the HEIC strategy in Brazilian industrial policy requires stability and political action, including coordination and partnerships, in order to mature into an expanded agenda of priorities and advances in good research practices. An additional issue to focus on is the monopolization of the global health industry due to merger and acquisition policies, which have resulted in the closure of production units. However, in Brazil, attention should still be paid to the restrictions imposed by control bodies on the preference for choosing partners, which should not prevent technological and productive dominance, both for companies with national capital and for research projects with the potential to be transformed into innovative products and processes.
