For ABIMED’s executive president, Fernando Silveira Filho, the outlook for the medical devices sector is positive with the new industrial policy launched by the federal government on January 22nd. Entitled New Industry Brazil (NIB), the proposal defined goals and actions for national production until 2033, with incentives for national companies, with the promise of financing and subsidies of R$ 300 billion until 2026.

The program aims to reverse the process of early and severe deindustrialization that has been affecting the country for decades and is aimed at six areas: agribusiness; bioeconomy; the health industrial complex; infrastructure, sanitation, housing and mobility; digital transformation; and defense technology. For health, the goal is to increase the share of national production from 42% to 70% in medicines, vaccines, equipment and medical devices, with the aim of strengthening the Unified Health System (SUS).
